Australians Andrew Chan, 31, and Myuran Sukumaran, 34, were executed by firing squad on the Indonesian prison island of Nusakambangan at about 3:35am AEST on 29 April 2015. Six other prisoners were executed at the same time. A Filipina prisoner, Mary Jane Veloso, received a last-minute reprieve.
The two men were among nine Australians arrested in Bali in 2005 over a plan to smuggle heroin to Australia. They had been sentenced to death in 2006, and appeals and clemency requests had been rejected.
The Australian government had appealed for clemency until the final hours. After the executions it withdrew its ambassador from Jakarta.
